Baseball!!!!!

Its official... I have Baseball Brain. I'm not sure why but this year I am addicted to baseball, not just any baseball, Blue Jays Baseball. I've been to 2 games already... I know there's people out there that have been to way more then that this season last year I went to ONE and it was in September, so I should get some credit for that. I'm just really enjoying watching the games (expect for last night cause that was a bit painful), when its an off day it makes me sad, when its an early game and I'm at work I have to keep checking my phone and Twitter for updates to see who's winning! Seriously, how did this happen? There's 151 games left of the regualr season... Let's Go Blue Jays!

Sales and Stuff

We finished our first sale a couple weeks ago (I'm a little slow with my post) and it was a lot of fun. I love coming up with ideas to make our area stand out and look interesting. It was a good sale to start with and gave us all some ideas of how to do things differently and prepare for the next one. Here's a look at our "table"....

We've booked a spot at the Binbrook Home and Craft Sale happening May 5th and 6th. It'll be a much bigger event so that means we need to get cracking so that we have lots of new items ready to go!!!

New Logo!!

It's here!! It's finally here!! So I've been bugging my cousin for a "little" while to make me a logo... He's super talented and creative and probably very sick of me and my pleading. But it's done and I love it and I will brag about it to EVERYONE! So anyway here it is...

It makes me smile just to look at :)

Oh! And don't forget... this weekend (Saturday March 24th) is the Mom 2 Mom show at Flamborough Babtist Church... $2.00 for admission and the sale runs from 9am-1pm. Hope to see you there!

Another Post... Creative, Right?

Well, as I said before, A LOT of sewing has been happening lately. Which is good because that means I am using up the stacks of fabric that I have and am actually doing something with it... really the motivation for using it up is that I get to buy more :) Anyway, I spent the weekend away at the cottage with my cousin and my uncle and they were lucky enough to be outside shoveling off the roof while I did most of the sewing (convenient for me, right?) and they didn't have to listen to the constant chatter of my sewing machine (or me blaring the Blue Jays game on the radio so that I could hear it over the sound of  my machine). I managed to complete another 5 bags for the Mom to Mom sale that's coming up (my first real sale... AHHHH). I've added my inventory to Facebook so you can have a look here. I think I should probably head back to the cottage now... I feel very productive when I'm there. Probably because there's no laptop, no cell phone and very few distractions.

Anyway, that's about all for today. Here's a picture of some of the hats that my sister is making for the sale. It's going to be a fun day!

What's New?

Well lately I've actually been sewing! I felt a little uninspired for a couple of months and while I was still getting stuff done it was really taking a long time. My fabric was taking over the family room and my bedroom was a claustrophobic mess that I just couldn't work in... So I came up with a plan and decided to get organized. I asked my Papa to make me some IKEAish cubbies and bought the boxes to fit inside.

I got home from work and just ripped my room apart. I don't have much space to work with so I wanted to make the most of it. In the end, I moved the bed, dresser and trunk, broke my bookshelf, bought and built (well Corey built) a new bookshelf, stacked my beautiful custom built cubbie cabinets and moved my desk into the family room and believe it or not I now have much more space! I'm actually organized. For those of you that know me you are well aware that organization is not my strong suit. I'm a bit of a disaster and generally function pretty well within the chaos. But anyway, I now have bins full of fabric that is easy to get at and I know what I have to work with. My sewing machine is set up in the family room and I have a much better workspace that doesn't take over the entire room which is a huge bonus for the rest of the family.

What else? Well I just finished my second set of baby bedding which was a lot of fun to make (I can't wait to see pictures of the room all set up!) and I have had a bunch of custom orders in the shop lately. I'm also in the process of building up inventory for my very first sale! I'm going to have a table at the Flamborough Baptist Church Mom to Mom Sale on Saturday March 24th. I'm really excited about this and hope that it will be a start to getting my info out to other people and getting this business going! You should come check it out, tell your friends! I'm sharing a table with my Aunt (selling handmade aprons) and my sister (selling crocheted childrens hats).

I'm heading up to the cottage this weekend so that I can actually feel like I experienced a little bit of winter and my plan is to bring my sewing machine (sorry Uncle), sit in front of the fire place and gets lots and lots of work done! I have so many cute bags cut out right now and I can't wait to get them put together! I'll post pictures when I get back. I really wouldn't mind if it snowed so much that we got snowed in and had to stay a few extra days... wishful thinking? Probably.

Pinterest.... Its Sucks You In!

A couple of months ago I got a message from my friend, and former room mate :(, Megan, telling me that there was this new website and I just HAD to check it out. I said I would and kind of put the thought aside... Then one day Meg grabbed me by the hair and dragged me to a computer and made me sign up for Pinterest in front of her so that she would know that I was finally listening...

I AM IN LOVE... I AM ADDICTED... I have been sucked in and I can't get out! I'm not asking for help... If you haven't already, I'm asking you to sign up and experience this with me. It's one of those things that you can look at quick and not see anything OR you can spend hours searching through pages and pages of other peoples "pins" which usually consist of fantastic recipes, craft ideas, home projects and all kinds of other random things. It gives a new perspective on DIY and has tons of clever tricks for everything from storage ideas to cleaning products. If you're getting married and want to do things yourself or need inspiration YOU NEED PINTEREST. I have now spent many evenings searching thrift shops and auctions looking for the perfect Pinterest projects (Thanks Catherine!)...

Now I realize to a lot of you this may be old news and since Pinterest has been around for a couple of years that's not really much of a surprise BUT it's definitely something that's picking up speed and I really think one day it will probably take over the world... It's really that fantastic. Trust me.

Anyway, I'll finish off this post with a shameless link to my own personal Pinterest boards. I think you still have to be invited to sign up so send me a message if you want an invite and I'll send one your way! ENJOY!

WARNING.... I am not responsible for the huge amounts of time you will waste on this if/when you sign up. Seriously...

Slacking... sorta

So I forgot about the fact that I started a Blog and therefore have been neglecting to post anything new. It's been a busy couple of weeks. Anyway, this post is going to be a short one... I'm at work, so I'm sneaking this in :) For those of you that have been buying my stuff and supporting my Etsy Shop, THANK YOU! It's extremely encouraging to know that people like what I make and that something I enjoy doing can be enjoyed by others as well. I've been a little slow adding new items to the shop lately, mostly because I have been so busy but also because I've had some custom orders. Make sure you check out my Facebook page too. I try to update all the new stuff, custom orders and promotions that are happening. Ok well that's all for today.... Short, sweet and self-promotion :)

Here's a couple pictures of the latest bags...

Hunting... for Treasure

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to visit a "new" antique market in Brantford called Crossroads Trading Post and Flea Market. At first glance I was completely skeptical and apparently when my aunt went she had the same reaction. It looks like a total dive... but I should have known better. This place was jam packed with all sorts of antiques, collectables, furniture and lots of vintage finds. We spent hours combing through the booths and taking pictures of things that we wanted to look at again. I'd recommend this place to anyone that has a love for all things old. Don't be deceived by the sketchy exterior, its a whole different world inside! and best of all... there's NO TAX!

Hmmmm..... I Have a Blog

So I never really thought of myself as someone that was - A, clever and witty enough to have a blog and be able to keep people's interest for weeks on end. And B, someone that is dedicated enough to keep up with a blog that will hopefully keep people's interest for weeks (or longer) on end. Well, despite those two things I have decided that its time to share my world with friends, family and complete strangers.

Now, this isn't going to be a blog about feelings, what I had for breakfast - which, by the way, is usually a cup of coffee, or how many times my shoe laces came undone, actually most of my shoes don't have laces.. However, it WILL be a blog about me, my interests, my time and my sewing business.

So in saying that here's a little bit about me and the important things in my life...

I am the boss. Or at least I like to think that I am. I'm the oldest of 4 and couldn't imagine not having minions... uhhhh I mean siblings, to control. Now that we're all grown up, and 2 of them are married I think I've lost some of that control but deep down they all know that I'm still in charge. We were raised in a Christian family with God always being a focus (even if you tried to ignore Him).  Church and family have always been a priority. We were also encouraged to be creative and taught to see the potential for beauty in things that a lot of people would throw away. When I was 12 my parents moved us out of the city and into an old farm house (and yes, when I say old, I mean IT'S OLD). They took the shell of a run down old place and turned it into a beautiful HOME. They restored it to be functional and at the same time maintained the heritage and uniqueness of the house. It also didn't hurt that my Dad is a cabinetmaker with his own business and my Mom used to have her own decorative craft business. Living here as helped me to appreciate antiques and vintage things and find a use for them today. It also helps that I have a bunch crazy relatives and friends that turn auctions into parties and social gatherings. I like to think that I'm the reason that so many friends are now enjoying auctions and antique stores... You're welcome :)  I work full-time for my dads cabinet business as the Office Administrator and I'm lucky enough to have my brother Mike working there too as the Shop Foreman. Its not the easiest job and working for family has some definite challenges but we make some pretty amazing stuff and I am constantly awed when I see what can be made from a piece of wood and some paint.

In the last year or so I have also learned to sew. After endless searching for the "perfect" bag I decided to make my own. I got to work searching out the right pattern and combed the fabric stores for just the right material and from there I learned how to sew. Admittedly, I got my mom to sew the first bag because I wasn't really very good at understanding the sewing lingo but I liked the finished product so much that I gave it a try and here we are...  I now have a pretty awesome sewing machine that my pretty awesome friends got me for my birthday and I can understand what it means to baste stitch and cut with the grain. The bags have progressed into a few different styles and I am also making baby blankets, crib bedding and accessories, stuffed owl pillows and Christmas Stockings. Stay tuned... you never know what I will try to tackle next! Also, check out Sew Accordingly on Facebook and my store on Etsy.

I'm also an Ultimate Frisbee junkie. I'm not like some people, the ones that live and breath ultimate all day, everyday and people (even other ultimate players) think they're weird. I live and breath ultimate between May and October and then I take a little break and try not to get too excited when I see that its time to get the team registered again and start running around in the mud. Just so you all know.... Ultimate is ONLY 5 months away :) For those of you now saying "huh????" Click here to learn about the greatest sport on Earth.

My other obsession is my cottage. Or to be more accurate, my nana and papa's cottage. This is my most favourite place. I don't need to go on a cruise or travel the world. I mean, I like to travel, but I don't need to. I have an island to go to!! When my mom was around 10 my grandparents bought a little shack on a little island. Its actually called "Little Island".  I think for a huge part of my life I took it for granted that I had a place to go whenever I wanted. Now, I realize how extremely fortunate I am to have a place where I can go to get away for a couple days and just RELAX. Read, fish, cook, swim, sleep, sew. It doesn't matter what you do. There's no schedule, no cell phone, no computer, just a lot of great people, good food and good times.

Alright, I think that's it. My plan is to keep this blog updated with more day to day things like what I find at an auction, new fabric or things that I have sewn, a recipe, a trip or just something that has inspired me (speaking of inspiration check out Pinterest if you haven't already, its awesome). I hope you''ll come back once in a while and see whats going on!
